FAQ’s (frequently asked questions).

Frequently asked questions about Conservation Through Art (CTAA from here on).

Q: Will CTAA provide a tax invoice and how do I get it? A: Yes. A tax invoice can be emailed to you upon request. Simply send me an email with all the typical relevant details (your name, what you purchased and when you purchased it, and the date etc.

Q: Will CTAA provide any kind of warranty? A: Yes. All my work is completed by Mirage Photographics in Perth, who cover my work under their warranty. This only applies to purchases that are not completed through my online commercial gallery. Warranty is not applicable to a digitally purchased photo. However, in the evert that there are legitimate technical (e.g. with a Wetransfer process) problems or quality (e.g. resolution) problems with a digitally purchased photo, I will negotiate with the client to resolve the issue immediately and as diplomatically as possible.

Q: If I purchase an artwork and part of that cost is forwarded to a Conservation group (as is the case with CTAA), do I claim that portion of my purchase as a tax deduction (donation) in my tax return? A: No, two people/organisations cannot simultaneously claim the same donation as a tax offset, and technically/legally it is CTAA that is required to do this as part of its tax accounting responsibilities.

Q: Why purchase art in order to donate to conservation when I can support conservation more directly with my own donations? A : I am in close contact with my chosen conservation organisation and can, given I have an ecology/environmental management degree, more effectively scrutinise the use of that money. Additionally, by purchasing art through CTAA, you get to support both art and conservation together. This is a win win for everyone.

Q: What are the differences between the ‘fine art’ gallery images and the ‘commercial gallery’ images? A: the fine art images cannot be purchased digitally/online, while the commercial gallery images can only be purchased online; the fine art images are sold as one off images (I only ever sell one copy of these images as an original fine art photo), while the commercial gallery images are sold with copyrights to reproduce the image, hence they may appear anywhere, in any form and in any number of copies once there has been a legitimate transfer of copyright away from me to the buyer; the fine art images are often more aesthetically esoteric and unique, while the commercial images are more aesthetically generic (popular culture associated) type images that are more conducive to commercial use such as within the context of nature tourism, eco tourism and surfing culture commercialization.

Q: Do the images available on this web site change regularly? A: yes, but not within a specified time frame. The rotation of fine art images and commercial gallery images are independent of each other and subject to my circumstantial discretion. If a photographic portfolio is completed for a local government (for example), this will be made available for purchase in the commercial gallery until all/any interest in purchasing the images is exhausted, which could be anywhere between a few days to several weeks. Sometimes they will stay there until a new photographic project is completed. However, once a commercial gallery image has been purchased and the transaction, the transfer of the image and transfer of copyrights has been verified and legitimised, the image will be immediately removed from my site. Similarly, if a fine art image is purchased in real life and that image appeared only for viewing on my site, it is immediately removed from my site.
